Worked well to reshape/de-burr the threads on my brew tap shank that were lightly damaged. Did good for my purpose and did appear to ‘scrape’ down the threads, with decent effort, but I wouldn’t go as far as saying ‘cut’ threads. It was cheap fix vs buying a new shank and I can now effortlessly get the nut threaded past the previously damaged area.That said, I’m not sure how well this die would work for a heavily damaged or cutting new threads. For the low price, it’s worth a try at least. Definitely want to use some cutting oil or lubricant.

This re-threading die worked perfectly. I recently had new tires put on my dump trailer and the tech cross threaded 1 lug nut and ran it on with an impact. Ruined the lug nut and damaged the threads on the stud. In under 30 seconds this die repaired the threads on the stud and with a new lug nut all is good. Saved me from having to replace a stud. I’m very happy with this tool.

Worth every penny! Saved the damaged pinion threads on my new ring & pinion. It looks like they galled after too much torquing and removing to get the shims right. I will say it took a lot of patience and the threads will never be perfect again. But these threads were pretty bad and I was eventually able to get a new nut on thanks to this thread chaser!

Great value! And perfect size. I only used it once. It cleaned up the threads, and it was easier to then get a new nut on. The bolt has serious damage from arching, and the nut was sort of welded on in the process. The nut didn't come off easily, so I ordered this and cleaned up the threads by simply using this rethreader and a socket wrench. The new nut went on easily. The top of that bolt needs to be ground or replaced (not sure if that is possible on the top of a battery). For now, it works, and that is what is important. I need to remove that nut from time to time until I get a battery disconnect on it as part of this RV coach battery set-up. Since the leveling jacks don't seem to have a breaker (that I can find anyway), I was "shocked" to find out. Don't trust fuse box labels.

Somehow, I screwed up the threads on my oil cooler instead of buying a whole new oil cooler, which I would’ve had to do because the fittings do not come out. I bought this die and it worked great. Had the job done in less than two minutes we ran the threads good to go no leaks.

Works ok for cleaning up dirty or damaged threads on soft metal. This isn't going to work well for cutting new threads. It also will not work well on heat-treated metal like the threads on a pinion gear which is what I bought it for. The threads on the pinion are much harder than the carbon steel this die is made from. I'd be skeptical of this working well to clean up threads on Grade 8 Bolts as well. If you are working on hard or heat treated metal you will need to spend the extra money for a carbide die.

My lugs were buggered up this tool worked cleans up the threads replacement of each lug would take lots of time and money. Lifesaving tool 2004 ram 1500

47-year career aerospace machinist, if it's good enough for me it should be good enough for the home DIY'er.Note: this die is for chasing a damaged thread, not for cutting fresh thread.

The entry threads are not chamfered so care must be taken when starting, but they it didn't cause cross threading. This rethreading die should cut a little more aggressively. After using plenty of penetrating oil while slowly chasing the rusted studs, cutting forward and then backing away, the die could easily spin back and forth on the studs, but brand new lug nuts were still tight and hard to turn by hand, although I could turn the nuts easily enough with a six inch ratchet. The problem may have been with the new lug nuts which could be off-sized. I'll try a different batch of new lug nuts on the next wheel and update this review as needed.

I ordered the 9/16-18 to try and repair threads on a rear wheel stud on a ram 1500.I removed the rear wheel on my truck to do some suspension work, and discovered that someone (probably at a tire shop) had cross threaded the stud and damaged the threads pretty badly. I didnt have very high hopes for this being something repairable, but on my truck theirs a lot of disassembly required to replace the rear hub/stud so I ordered a new lug nut and this re-threading die/chaser to try first and hopefully be able to avoid replacing the stud, at least for awhile.This isn't going to be able to fix any thread damage, but if you take your time, use oil and go slowly like i did, you should be able to clean up alot of threads.I went slowly, going 1 full revolution, then 1 half turn back over the damaged threads using plenty of penetrating oil, chasing the damaged threads 3 or 4 times until I was able to thread a new lug nut on by hand with pretty little resistance.after this job, the die looked to be pretty dull. It probably wouldn't work as well if i need it a second time, but for the price I paid I am very happy with this product, and It served my purpose perfectly.I would recommend if you need to use it on a project like this.
