The bot holder end it 1/2" round - not Hex which is just what I wanted. I have a 3" Forstner bit I need to drill through a 10" beam and the bit has a 1/2" round base so this is just what I need. The bit extender base is a hex that you chuck into a 1/2 drill. I am happy with the purchase.
It’s a good, stout extender that adds enough length to go through 4” brick, airgap and 8” block. It needs a ½” chuck, and it will hold tightly to a ⅜” single flat or tri-lobed bit shank. Well, it’ll hold until vibration loosens one or both setscrews and they fall out and get lost. The manufacturer ought to have gone to the simple expedient of using locktite, or of providing some. I never thought of it. ¾’s of the way through drilling one hole, both loosened and one was irretrievably lost (I tried magnet-fishing in the pile of dust, but it may have been flung.) No matter, I bought an assortment of setscrews, metric & SAE, and it was an M6 metric by ~4mm, so I used a 6mm from the kit and it fit so well, with room to spare, that I wonder at cheaping out on the shorter s/s!The extension was very firm, though, with no appreciable runout. The setscrews hold a lobed shank sufficiently well to drill brick and block with a 1” diamond core-bit. Be sure to brace well, as I hadn’t and got a bit of sprain when the bit hung, spinning the drill: which is a testament to how well this extension can perform (when it’s not flinging setscrews.) Overall, I recommend it, just put a little blue loctite on the setscrews, align the flat of a lobe under them, and brace yourself if using a powerful drill.
Built well. Worked great to extend a 2” auger to dig a tunnel under a sidewalk.

It's long but you can always shorten it.
I already had a 1/4" shank extension, but for really large bits, 1/2" is a must. I needed to drill a large hole through a thick wall and this extension allowed the bit to reach through. It is very sturdy and held the bit firmly.
I use a 3 inch Dia. Bulb auger to dig holes 6 inch deep for Bulbs. This extension allows me to stand up while digging holes. It has been a solution to back pain I always got bending over in the past.
